Knowledge Directory Architecture
|
 |
The Knowledge Directory Professional edition leverages an XML-based framework for maximum adaptability. Content metadata and system configuration both rely on a robust, distributed and extensible XML schema.

XML- Extensible and Flexible
The Knowledge Directory organizes topics and subtopics in an n-level hierarchy using an XML framework.
Knowledge Nodes are used to capture knowledge item objects in databases.
An extensible framework for the Knowledge Item structure captures metadata and any attributes specific to the knowledge item type. Knowledge items can be associated with many topics at once allowing for improved browsing.
Knowledge Item Types
The Knowledge Directory has an upload facility that allows users to upload content directly from a browser. A variety of knowledge item types may be uploaded to the knowledge directory using this facility. The following is a list of pre-defined knowledge item types that may be uploaded:
- Memo
- Link
- Question
- Request
- Tip
|
- Problem
- Resource
- File
- Feedback
|
- Bug
- Archive
- Solution
- Request
|
Knowledge item types and corresponding attributes may be defined as required.
Configurable Knowledge Items in Version 1.1
The XML architecture was revised with the release of Knowledge Directory 1.1 to permit the full definition of knowledge item data structures. With this, knowledge items can now be tailored for specific needs.
- Customers define whatinformation to capture.
- Form/field layouts can bedynamically configured.
- Additional standard KItemtypes added to standard 'out-of-the-box' list.
System Requirements
Capacity for locally stored content is limited only by server hard disk size. Knowledge Directory Pro runs on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Unix and Linux operating systems. MS IIS (Internet Information Server) and Apache web servers are supported. Knowledge Directory Pro is browser-based and is compatible with IE (Internet Explorer) and Netscape browsers.
